AVPA response to the EDPB-EDPS Joint Opinion on rules to prevent child sexual abuse

The European Data Protection Board, a collective body of EU, EFTA and EEA data protection authorities, and the European Data Protection Supervisor have published a jointy opinion on the latest proposed rules to prevent child sexual abuse being considered by the European Parliament.

 

We have today written to the chair of the EDPB, and the Supervisor, to clarify the latest state of the art in technology to deliver privacy-preserving online age assurance and to express our concern that such opinions, when based on misunderstandings, may in themselves become self-fulfilling prophecies, by creating misplaced fears about privacy amongst vulnerable groups
